What’s the best camera to use? That largely depends on whether you’re a weekend, amateur, semi-professional or even professional photographer. The saying, “The best camera is the camera that you have with you.” is very true in many ways. I mean, if you encounter a beautiful sunset, and you don’t have any camera at all with you, then you lower your odds for a great shot to zero. But if you have a small, compact camera, or even a cell phone camera, then you at least have a way and a means to record a gorgeous moment to last for the rest of history. Do you fancy taking shots in crazy places? Or even under water? Then a water proof camera might fit the bill. A water proof camera is also usually dust proof and shock proof, so it’s perfect for an active lifestyle. Are you already a shot taker and already know your way around cameras and their settings? Then maybe a DSLR is what you should be after. A DSLR’s quality usually means more MP’s (mega-pixels, or overall ability of the cameras sensor to record amount of information). Higher ISO, or the ability of the cameras performance in low light. Generally a DSLR will have more settings too, offering more control. It does, however, require more knowledge to get the most out of these extra bells and whistles. My personal favorite, the “Bridge Camera”, is great in many ways. First of all, bridge cameras tend to “bridge” the gap between just your run of the mill point and shoot, and a DSLR. They can be relatively simple, and yet still have enough settings to still satisfy a professional on the move. One really great feature of a bridge camera usually, is that they almost always have a powerful zoom. Usually anywhere from 15X to up to 83X zoom. This means for an 83X zoom, that it will bring the subject that you are focusing on 83X closer!! Right now as this is being written, there is only one bridge camera on the market with an 83X zoom and that is the Nikon P900. There is also rumors out there that Nikon is about to replace this camera with an even more powerful zoom. If you’re not sure how you’ll be taking photo’s, not sure just how serious you will be about taking photo’s, then I would suggest just a run of the mill point and shoot. Point and shoots are the most common type of camera and can be had for not much money at all, or can be pretty pricey such as the aforementioned Nikon P900, although the P900 is more on the far end of the point and shoot and up into the bridge camera category. If anyone has any questions about what type of camera to use, or even just photography questions in general, I’d be happy to help. I know that the whole camera thing can be overwhelming to some people, and I totally understand. If you already have access to a camera, then by all means get out there and shoot!! Namaste.
